Had the new 84 Ski Tique in the water for a couple of weeks now. Things seem to be running great - should be better with a little bit of fine tuning.
Looking to replace the prop on it in the next week or so. Right now looking at putting on an Acme 540. Found one online for about 350. Let me know thoughts. |

I agree that the 540 should be the hot ticket on that hull with a stock 351w. Delta's price is usually pretty tough to beat... they look to be $357 (free shipping) with the CCF discount.

Don't forget I had the vibration issue with the 540 on my Tique and Tim, I believe it was you that said Reid's had the problem as well.
The 540 was on it for around 20 minutes and the OJ went back on!! Pat, You can try the 540 but I just wanted you to know it didn't work for me. |

Pete, you had an issue on your 16' Tique with a 302... Pat is asking about his '84 Tique, which is 17'9". There are no hull clearance issues on a 2nd gen Tique, as it uses the 2nd gen Ski Nautique (70-81) hull... it can fit the 13" wheel just fine.
Youre right though, the 12.5" Acmes (1210, 1604) fit much better on the smaller boats with less clearance. |

I'm in the 540 camp and I bet if you shoot Reid an email he may have a nice shiney new one he could bring to Green Lake so you can try and buy on the spot. He brought a good selection of props to GL last year. If he won't have one I will have my spare 540 with me that you can put on and try but it's not for sale.

Agree 100% on the higher cost/easily damaged BUT once you try the 540 the old federal will become a candle holder for the picnic table. We are talking apples to oranges in terms of performance. |

I agree with the Magic Man, this thing will be used for skiing the river and as a boom boat. Sounds like the 540 is the ticket for performance.
Reid is going to bring up the 540 and possible a 4 blade OJ. We'll see what works best next weekend at the reunion! |

When I'm on the river system I use my old Federal, ACME for the spring fed lakes. Do keep those "potato chip" prosp off the bottom.

The Federal does all it's suppose to, for me.
If I ever feel the need to go faster, I use an old Ellis Propeller. I especially wouldn't run a CNC in a river. Well, not without a spare Federal or Michigan on board. |

The CNC will be used at the lake on weekends, old will be used on the river.
I fell is love with our ACME 422 on the 96, if the 540 acts the remotely close to the 422 we will be happy campers! |

Alan is now running an Acme 430 (13x13), as the 540 was not enough for his ~380hp. The 540 seems to be the prop of choice for a 351w in that hull, at least up to the 325-350hp mark... beyond that, more prop may be needed!

I am running a 13X13 prop on my 86 now. Is that too much prop? Would I do better with a 13X12? Would it give me more top end or hole shot or both? I get about 43 top speed with 4 people in the boat with current prop.

13x13 is the original prop. The modern CNC props tend to drop a little in pitch to offer comparable performance numbers (speed vs. RPM), probably because of the larger blade surface area. So long as youre turning in the 4400 range, thats correct- though you'd likely pick up some performance (both top end and holeshot) with something like a 13x12 540.

Maybe I should just keep my 13X13 and use the 350 bucks I would have spent on a prop towards performance upgrades. Instead of getting a prop to suit my engine maybe I should make my engine fit my prop. Thats what I will tell my wife anyway. |
